Welcome to the General Insurance OmbudService (GIO) website; I am glad you’ve found us. GIO is an independent dispute resolution service that provides fair and impartial help for Canadian consumers of home, automobile and business insurance. It is my pleasure to serve as its Executive Director and play a role in guiding this important work.
I joined GIO in 2018 after leading a national banking OmbudService for five years. I am a lawyer by trade and was called to the Alberta bar in 2008 and the Ontario bar in 2015. I practiced law for several years primarily in the area of civil litigation. I bring learnings from these previous roles to GIO.
I am very proud of the work we do each day at GIO. Our industry experts provide access to information to consumers in challenging situations who often don’t have anywhere else to turn. It’s a special role and I am thrilled to work with our entire team.
The challenges bought on by COVID-19 have continued this past year, however our outstanding and dedicated staff have remained resilient during these trying times. GIO’s entire staff continues to perform our valued services to consumers – still currently from home – providing assistance, responding to questions, and replying to requests for information. We have continued to explore new ways to improve our systems and services, as well as increase efficiency.
We are proud to have many people entrust GIO with their complaints and/or concerns. We will continue to work with member company Ombuds’ offices in an open-minded, respectful, and constructive way to find solutions.
